33 Tage in Ketten, Fehlfarben's second studio album, was released in the fall of 1981 after Peter Hein left the band. Shortly before a planned tour of Germany in spring 1981, he had turned his back on the band because he could not cope with the pressure of success. Guitarist Thomas Schwebel, who wrote the lyrics for "Monarchie und Alltag" together with Peter Hein, finally took over the difficult role of frontman. Despite the personnel changes, "33 Tage in Ketten" is in no way inferior to its predecessor album "Monarchie und Alltag". Both lyrically and musically, the album is the logical and consistent successor. It has the same emotionally oppressive density and Schwebel is a fantastic guitarist, lyricist and singer. Since its release, "33 Days in Chains" has been unjustly overshadowed by Monarchy and Everyday Life. The album with the iconic cover is a post-punk monolith, hard, disturbing and yet danceable, an essential album of the German underground of the 80s.

For the re-release of 33 Tage in Ketten, Thomas Schwebel has put together a band consisting of himself, Peta Devlin, Rick McPhail (ex Tocotronic) and Gunther Buskies (Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen) to perform this classic in its entirety.
