An open door to the street, piano music from the courtyard, worn red brick, an old tree. Hidden amidst the hustle and bustle of Berliner Torstraße is Kleine Bremer Höhe, an unrenovated workers' quarter that serves as a refuge for artists, punks and pensioners. The residential complex, which is about to be sold, is not useful, but usable, and its remaining residents playfully deal with the fractures in their living spaces. Sympathetic

Matthias Lintner bids farewell to a place that is simultaneously still his home and already a thing of the past.
