Johann George Tromlitz was the highly esteemed principal flute of the "Great Concerts", the predecessor of today's Gewandhaus Orchestra, and held this position for over two decades from 1754. In addition to his outstanding artistic activities, Tromlitz also devoted himself to composing and flute pedagogy. He published several influential flute schools and numerous compositions.
His commitment to flute making is particularly significant: with the development of the so-called Tromlitz flute with eight keys, he reformed both the range and playing technique of the instrument. This innovation was recognized and appreciated worldwide for almost a century.
On the occasion of his 300th birthday, the flute class of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and the flute section of the Gewandhaus Orchestra cordially invite you to celebrate the legacy of this important musician, teacher, composer and instrument maker.
