Contrary to her father's wishes, the Chinese princess Turandot refuses to marry. She sets an almost impossible condition: Anyone who wants to marry her must solve three riddles. However, anyone who fails will be publicly executed. When Prince Calaf actually succeeds in answering all three riddles, the princess is shaken to her foundations. Turandot unleashes an open power struggle, which ultimately claims innocent victims.
