On the floor
A sculpture divided into tiles unfolds on the floor of Matjö. It takes up patterns, lines and structures of public space and describes it as a system of signs that organizes and directs movement. While buildings keep their distance from each other, the different spheres of the city meet directly on the ground - places of representation merge into traffic areas, public and private spaces, cultivated and neglected intermediate zones.

The urban floor forms an intuitively legible network that regulates and delimits speeds, means of transport and modes of behavior. A relief is spread across the tiles that jumps between large-scale urban structures and details of urban space.

The sculpture is complemented by two videos: A ride through the city on a bicycle, one looking down at the ground, the other with the camera pointing vertically upwards. Events outside the image field are indicated by noises, reflections and fragments of architecture and infrastructure. By shifting the perspective, the edges of the urban space become the focus of perception and open our eyes to their nature.
