»Und das Schöne stirbt uns unter der schreibenden Hand«: Ein Abend für Marie Luise Kaschnitz mit Eva Sichelschmidt & Durs Grünbein

"Read Marie Luise Kaschnitz now" was the title of an article by Eva Sichelschmidt on the 125th birthday of the great poet. "Capture things as they were in a factual, yet kaleidoscopic manner, not following the judgment of hindsight. Recording the beauty, without a rapturous tone. Describing the horrors without lamenting, yet also resonating with accusation. Above all, the ornamentless language is impressive ... Marie Luise Kaschnitz's narrative art can become an anchor point for those born later, for today's readers, especially in times like these."

Together with Durs Grünbein, she has put together a program for this evening, which will present the poet's work in readings and discussions. The perspectives are different and complement each other.

Eva Sichelschmidt, born in NRW, is the author of three novels, one of which was nominated for the German Book Prize, and took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition. Her most recent publication is "Transitmaus. A novel from the last days of West Berlin" (Rowohlt 2023).

Durs Grünbein, born in Dresden, is one of the most important poets and intellectuals in contemporary European literature. He received the Georg Büchner Prize (1985) at the age of 33. He has also made a name for himself as an essayist and storyteller, most recently publishing his novel "Der Komet" (Suhrkamp 2023).
