The Ensemble Partes takes us back to the Ukraine of the 17th and 18th centuries - a time when Kyiv and Lviv were cultural crossroads between East and West. The focus is on the unique Partesny Concerti: choral compositions between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions that only existed in Ukraine.

The program combines choral music from the rich tradition of these Partesny Concerti as well as works by Mykola Dyletsky, Andrii Raczynsky and Maksym Berezovsky, some of whom still used Partesny elements, but at the same time were already composing in the new classical style. From powerful twelve-part chants to refined miniatures, a magical winter wonderland unfolds.

In cooperation with Museum Schnütgen as part of the exhibition "Light in Dark Times" with stained glass from the Khanenko Museum in Kyiv and with Organizatie Oude Muziek Utrecht. Supported by the Kunststiftung NRW and the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne. Recorded by WDR 3.
