How should we deal with feelings of despair, anger and sadness in these catastrophic times - and what potential for resistance is inherent in extreme emotional states?
Despair, upliftment, turmoil, Ah! - cries Heike Geißler's lecture performance. She explores despair without rashly dismissing or rejecting it. Instead, she pleads for a vigilant confrontation with it: to emerge from it wide awake and challenging and to find one's way back into action. In collaboration with the artist Anna Lena von Helldorff, Heike Geißler invites you to a rally on the "Platz verzweifelter Gefühle" - a dress rehearsal before the protest.
But how do you deal with it when your own feelings are appropriated and smoothed over by late capitalism?
In her literary performance a real big place - set against the backdrop of the reality TV format Love is Blind - Jorinde Minna Markert deals with the commercialization of romantic feelings. She uncovers moments that explore or transgress boundaries in popular dating formats.
With Cakes of Despair, the artist duo Hilma Bäckström and Hedda Bauer enter the realm of unruly readings and create an obscure culinary space that in turn triggers completely different ambivalent feelings of consumption.
The event will be held in German spoken language.

Jorinde Minna Markert writes texts and performs - with words, sometimes with her foot, most recently at the Leipzig Book Fair's Poetry Night. Her scenic texts have been nominated for the Retzhofer Dramapreis, received the audience award at the Preis der jungen Dramatik and the Manuskriptepreis of the Leipziger Hörspielsommer. She writes and performs for the mixed-media ensemble "hypochondrische Ängste", which has received several grants from the Musikfonds. She studied writing in Hildesheim and Leipzig. She has also had roles in several episodes of GZSZ. If it turns out that text is not a good foot to kick against the patriarchy, she might learn something else.
Oh no, the kitchen is on fire! -Cakes of Despair is a collaboration between artists Hedda Bauer and Hilma Bäckström. With Cakes of Des pair, the duo create a performance, a meeting place and a means of communication, combining the domestic, the delicious and the destructive and transforming desserts into performances. Ephemeral, edible sculptures speak the language of sugar - where sweetness means both seduction and burden.
