A hotel is to be built, an old house is to disappear - and in the middle of it all is Orsolya, a bailiff in Cluj, the capital of Transylvania. What is routine for her ends in disaster. A moment that cannot be turned back. Driven by feelings of guilt, she seeks support from the people around her: in conversations with her husband, her best friend, a former student, even in confession to the priest. But nothing can heal her inner turmoil.
With KONTINENTAL '25, Radu Jude (BAD LUCK BANGING OR LOONY PORN, DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD) has created a tragicomedy shot on the iPhone that is both reminiscent of Rossellini's Europa '51 and paints a picture of Europe today: a brilliant upswing in tourism and the construction industry, alongside poverty, homelessness and nationalism, which have almost become commonplace. And in the middle of it all, a woman who can't stop asking what is right and what is wrong.
We are showing KONTINENTAL '25 on Monday, September 8, at 7:30 pm at Cinema Futuro, Innenstadtkinos Stuttgart - as always with a special supporting program, vinyl lottery, drinks & talks in the foyer with a view of the Schlossplatz at night.
