Whether in the house, garden, forest, moor, heath, field, pond, mountain or coast - spiders live everywhere. Their habitats are as diverse as their way of life. There are over 1,000 native spider species and you've probably never heard of many of them. In recent years, the yellow and black striped wasp spider has spread to heathland and dry grassland. It builds particularly strong webs to catch grasshoppers. The diving water spider, which builds its web under water, can be found in moorland ditches. Crab spiders lie in wait in flowers for insects whose color they take on. The males of the jumping spiders perform their complex courtship dance on the wooden planks of the next terrace. Join us on a colorful journey through the world of native spiders.
Are you interested in spiders? This year, our curator Dr. Gunnar Gad will guide you through the world of spiders in a total of three lectures. Please also note our reading with Lothar Müller on "Spiders. A portrait".
