In May 2025, Israel and Germany were able to look back on 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The meeting between the former Mayor of Cologne and first German Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer, and the Israeli Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, in New York on March 14, 1960 is well known.

The exchange paved the way for the establishment of diplomatic relations on May 12, 1965 - but not alone. Less well known are the relations between the two countries in and through sport that had already been established. Exchange programs and activities, especially those involving soccer players, are a good example of what sport can do: connect.
