VOX ET SPIRITUS

In the organizer's words:

For several years now, a dance production together with the Mainfranken Theater's opera choir has been a dream project of the dance department, which will be realized in the 2025/26 season.
As the title suggests, the focus is on the voice (vox) and the breath(spiritus, also in the sense of "spirit" or "soul").
Breath is a symbol and basic prerequisite for life. Our heartbeat is influenced by our breathing. Breathing and the cardiovascular system are therefore directly linked through the movement of the body. The first real breath of a newborn baby is usually associated with the first use of the voice: the first cry. Our own voice is an important part of our personality. Choral music is also about the harmony of different voices. The life-affirming breath is of great importance both for a choir and in dance, because breathing together creates cohesion, creates the feeling of a unified body of the choir as well as the dance ensemble. Breathing together serves as an "introduction".
Artistic inspiration is also based on "breath": the Latin inspirare can be understood as "to breathe in" as well as "divinely inspired" in the sense of an idea "breathed in".
As it is closely linked to the autonomic nervous system, breathing also has a major influence on human emotions, from sadness, anger and fear to relief and joy.
The musical spectrum ranges from ancient choral melodies to the present day, immersing the audience in different worlds of sound. For this production, the dance ensemble is accompanied by both the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Mainfranken Theater choir.
