All 193 member states are committed to the universal goals and principles of the UN. The first goal is the "responsibility to protect", and genocides should be prevented. To what extent has the UN fulfilled this responsibility in recent decades?

Professor Dr. Petra Schmidt from the FAchhochschule des Mittelstands will explore these questions at "Wissenschaft im Rathaus" on September 1. She will present various examples, discuss the background to the UN's respective actions and will be available to answer questions following her presentation.

On (almost) every first Monday of the month, the "Science in the Town Hall" event series gives anyone interested a unique insight into current and exciting research projects. Scientists from Cologne's universities and research institutions report on their specialist areas in a vivid way. The free lectures in the town hall show the diverse and different approaches to research as well as the individual perspectives of Cologne's research landscape. "Science in the Town Hall" is a unique opportunity to ask open questions and talk to the experts and other participants.
