WEIL ICH IN JAPAN WAR

In the organizer's words:

"Because I was in Japan" - a sentence that becomes the starting point for an exhibition about the influence of Japanese culture on contemporary artistic practice. Anyone who consciously moves around Japan encounters a multi-layered culture between Zen and pop, ritual and sensory overload. These tensions also characterize the works of the participating artists - not as mere stylistic quotations, but as a lasting trace in attitude, material and working method.

The exhibition shows painting, drawing, photography, installation, printmaking, video, animated film and performance by artists with a personal connection to Japan. It is complemented by guest artists from Japan as well as a supporting program with a shakuhachi concert at the vernissage, a matcha café every Sunday during the exhibition and a gyotaku performance at the finissage in the Center for Art.
