Weltrekordversuch in Hannover: DKMS-Registrierungsaktion

The non-profit student association AIAS Hannover e.V. invites all Hanoverians to a world record attempt on Thursday, October 23, 2025. The aim is to register 3,000 new potential stem cell donors for DKMS in one day and thus not only set a new record, but above all give hope to sick people worldwide and save lives.

The campaign day has a serious background: every 27 seconds, one person worldwide is diagnosed with blood cancer. Among children alone, blood cancer is the most common form of cancer. Many patients can only survive with a life-saving stem cell donation. The prerequisite for a stem cell donation is a match of ten so-called HLA characteristics in the blood. Unfortunately, the search for this "genetic twin" is often like looking for a needle in a haystack. Together with the help of Hanoverians, AIAS Hannover e.V. wants to give patients worldwide a second chance at life. It is precisely because the match of tissue characteristics required for stem cell donation is extremely rare that it is so important for as many people as possible to be registered in the DKMS database. The more people are registered, the greater the chance of finding a "genetic twin" for those affected and thus saving lives.

Registration is quick and easy: anyone between the ages of 17 and 55 who is not yet registered in a database can register as a potential stem cell donor on October 23. AIAS Hannover e.V. is not only calling on students - everyone in Hannover is invited to register. Whether it's a group of colleagues at work during their lunch break or a soccer team before club training - every registration counts. Registering with DKMS only takes around 10 minutes in total. Interested parties first fill out a short online questionnaire in which they provide their contact details and medical requirements are checked. They then carry out three cheek swabs themselves.
