What it's about

"Who Killed My Father" combines political theater with digital media art and inclusive working methods. Based on the award-winning novel by Édouard Louis, the production combines personal biography with razor-sharp sociological analysis. In clear, unyielding language, it shows how political decisions shape lives. The social reality that Louis describes reflects current developments in Germany, from the dismantling of social security systems to the growing social divide.

Four actors constantly alternate between the roles of victim, perpetrator and witness, revealing how deeply social background and economic violence are anchored in us. The production makes the hard facts of political responsibility tangible and creates a place of collective responsibility. Here, solidarity is understood not just as a word, but as the only utopian means of finally breaking the spiral of oppressive violence.

Édouard Louis is considered one of France's most important young intellectuals. His texts are radically honest and describe the growing social divide. This production lends Louis' texts a new topicality and urgency, which can be sensually experienced in Björn Gabriel's typical live film-theater aesthetic.
