In his late work, Prof. Dr. Götz Aly addresses the question of how
tens of millions of Germans became enthusiastic about Adolf Hitler and the NSDAP from 1932/33 onwards and how hundreds of thousands of them took part in unprecedented mass murders. To answer this question, he examines the methods of rule with which the Nazi rulers transformed the majority of Germans into compliant executors and war-jaded participants. It becomes clear that the answer is complex and never definitive.
