Sport is music! A pop-up tennis court equipped with motion sensors and loudspeakers will be set up for the interactive installation. Here, the tennis-playing audience becomes improvising musicians. The movement of their bodies on the court activates the loudspeakers and allows various sound effects or melody fragments to be heard. In this way, a new piece of music is created live with every rally.

The aim of the work is to combine sport and music, performance and physical exercise in order to blur the boundaries between the players and the audience. What melodies do the players elicit from the tennis court when they are not playing against each other for points, but with each other for sounds? With Wild Conversation, Japanese musician Syotaro Hayashi directs the attention of tennis players away from the competition of scoring points towards a mindful approach focused on dialog and empathy. The ~Music Tennis~ is an expression of his resistance to individualistic and competitive values.

While ~Music Tennis~ encounters chance encounters in public spaces in Hanover on the opening weekend, it can be played in the setting of the Herrenhausen Gardens during the Children's ArtSpectacle.

Limited accessibility: access to the garden is at ground level, paths in the garden are on gravel.
