Awareness concept of the LILA IN KÖLN alliance for the demonstration on November 25 (International Day against Violence against Women)

The awareness concept of the LILA IN COLOGNE alliance describes the approach and attitude of the awareness team during the demonstration on November 25 - the International Day against Violence against Women. The aim is to support participants in situations of discrimination, border violations or (sexualized) violence, to show solidarity and to ensure respectful, safe interaction with one another.

Awareness means awareness and responsibility: the team creates approachability, offers partisan support for those affected and intervenes in situations of conflict or violence if necessary. As the demo takes place in a public space, it is not possible to offer a closed "safe space" - however, awareness staff are clearly visible (wearing purple high-visibility vests and fairy lights) and can be approached throughout the event.

The team's work is based on key principles such as partiality, the power of definition of those affected, confidentiality, reflection on one's own privileges and transparency. This means that the focus is on the perceptions and needs of the person concerned, which are taken seriously and determine the next steps.

The awareness team offers two fixed points of contact (at the front of the Lauti and at the end of the demo train) as well as mobile contact persons. It acts proactively, respectfully and within the scope of its own capacities. The members provide emotional support to those affected, coordinate conversations or confrontations with cross-border persons if necessary (only at the request of those affected) and help to find safe solutions - e.g. on the way home or by arranging professional help.

The concept is aimed at all participants in the demonstration, the awareness team itself and the organizing alliance. It is intended to provide guidance on what awareness means, what support at the demo actually looks like and what values it is based on.
