Artificial intelligence has already found its way into many areas of our everyday lives. But what happens when it not only answers simple questions, but also makes decisions - for example in triage situations in hospitals, in application procedures or when granting a loan? It must be ensured that decisions made by machines are compatible with the applicable law. But can legal compliance be programmed into an AI or can it learn it independently like a human? And can we be sure that the data on which the decision is based is neutral and that all people are treated equally?

Prof. Dr. Svenja Behrendt teaches public law at the University of Mannheim and devotes her research to these questions. Discuss with her whether AI systems can and should make legally compliant decisions.
