WOBBLY ECHOES - Nine Rounds of Remembrance
for ensemble with ukulele (2024)

The ukulele still barely features in contemporary music. In Albrecht Zummach's new work, however, it plays an important role, both as a soloist and in the ensemble. WOBBLY ECHOES was inspired by memories of some of his earlier compositions. It is based on the instrumentation of a sextet from 1991.
Albrecht Zummach researched earlier motifs, lines, harmonies and rhythms through latent contemplation in order to reassemble and continue them in whole or in part. There was no search or analysis in his archive of scores, only reminiscences and associations with his own 'old' music: "I copied from myself, but I probably misquoted myself because I only wanted to rely on my memory and didn't want to check my sources. This is how WOBBLY ECHOES came about -wobbly echoes in and from my trains of thought that oscillate between the present and the past."

Albrecht Zummach's composition WOBBLY ECHOES for ensemble with ukulele will be premiered by DEHIO.
