In his late work "Doctor Faustus", Thomas Mann describes the path of the young composer Adrian Leverkühn, who conjures up his own downfall through a pact with the devil. At the center of the musical lessons that Leverkühn receives from his teacher Wendell Kretzschmar is always the work of Beethoven, especially his last piano sonata op. 111, to which Thomas Mann creates a literary monument here.
In addition to this masterpiece, Beethoven's "32 Variations on a Theme of his Own (WoO 80)" will also be performed by the internationally renowned pianist Roman Salyutov.
The texts will be read by Stephan Schäfer (Cologne), who has made a name for himself with the organization and moderation of over 1000 readings and concerts throughout Germany.
