In the location's words:

In 1988, 11 artists founded a producers' gallery at Bismarckstraße 68 in Cologne with the idea of
idea of providing a space for young and contemporary art. After several years of residency in Cologne's Mediapark, the transformation into a non-profit art association with currently around 50 members was completed in 2010 as part of a fundamental restructuring.

Our aim is to promote and communicate contemporary German and international art and culture. We offer platforms for presentation in response to national and international calls for entries. All project contributions are judged by an independent jury or team of curators.

Through thematically defined projects, we position ourselves on socially relevant and political topics as well as on the current debate on aesthetics, the art market or urban society.

In order to constantly send out and receive new impulses, artists from all areas of the visual arts are involved in projects and we play changing locations in Cologne. Since 2018, we have also maintained permanent project spaces: the 68elf artbox from 2018 to 2019 and the 68elf studio since 2020. We also cooperate with similarly structured art associations in other cities. We regularly take part in events such as Internationale Photoszene, Lange Museumsnacht, Kunstroute Ehrenfeld, a book for the city, etc.
