The Bavarian State Library, founded in 1558 by Duke Albrecht V, is the largest academic universal library in Germany with around 38.5 million media units and one of the most important international memory institutions. With around 4.7 million digitized works, the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek has the largest digital database of any German library. The library offers a wide range of services in the field of innovative digital usage scenarios. It also acts as the technical and editorial operator of the state cultural portal bavarikon and the Bavarian Literature Portal. At regular intervals, the library presents outstanding works from its extensive collections and holdings in exhibitions.
