Protection in times of crisis
Security and defense for our future

War and the climate crisis are putting our security to the test. How can the state still protect us - where can and must we take responsibility ourselves? There are plenty of opportunities, for example as volunteers in aid organizations. Ursula Schröder analyzes state protection mechanisms and shows how we can strengthen them for the future. She combines security policy expertise with concrete proposals for cooperative and inclusive forms of social involvement in civil protection and defense. Her book calls for action and helps to overcome resignation.

Ursula Schröder is Scientific Director of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy (IFSH) and Professor of Political Science at the University of Hamburg.
