machwerkhaus köln is a center for design and urban production where the creative industries, crafts and design work together to enable and promote local and circular value creation processes.

Manufactories, craft businesses, design labels, impact-oriented start-ups, prototype builders, design and planning offices as well as circular economy companies are given space for the development, production, packaging, presentation and distribution of their products and services on almost 20,000 square meters at fair and flexible rental conditions.

Visitors to the machwerkhaus gain insights into the development and manufacture of products. Twice a year, the machwerkschau presents selected players who develop and manufacture prototypes and products at the interface of design, craftsmanship and the circular economy.

Our machwerk space at Dillenburger Straße 87 is not only the contact point for machwerkhaus köln, but also a coworking café. Since May 2025, Bistro Hempies has been treating guests to food and drinks and enriching the space with events on art, culture and community.

In summer 2025, the machwerktag was also established: Every Thursday from 4 to 8 pm, machwerkers open their workshops and studios to give visitors an insight into their projects. Regular workshops have developed from this, for example on risography printing, Japanese embroidery or natural dyeing. On these days, Hempies will also provide culinary accompaniment into the evening.

In addition, the machwerkhaus enables designers to use workspaces temporarily as part of residency programs. One example is the creative.projects by creative.nrw: three award-winning projects were given the opportunity to show their work for three months in the showrooms on the Magistrale in 2025 - targeted support from the machwerkhaus köln.
