Asian Performing Artists Lab (APAL) is back with a new format. Our inaugural APAL@WERKSTATT features workshops, performances and community events given by our APAL artists, as well as artists of Asian background. 

Rooted in Asian criticality, shaped by queer, feminist as well as diasporic approaches, the 4-day event brings together our APAL artistic community, artists of Asian backgrounds, allies and anyone who is curious, opening up a space to move, do, feel, think and luxuriate in knowledge exchange and encounter. 

Two music acts open APAL@WERKSTATT, in an evening of sonic enjoyment spanning the tender to the hardcore. Then, dive into the workshops offered by our artists, each with their own engaging practices: screaming; meditation and body-based work; collective mourning through the use of voice and text; the fleshy pleasure of queer eroticism; creating soundscapes; each workshop offers something for the curious. Finally, we come together to celebrate and sing our lungs out at the closing Karaoke night.

Das Asian Performing Artists Lab (APAL) ist mit einem neuen Format zurück. Die erste Ausgabe von APAL@WERKSTATT präsentiert Workshops, Performances und Community-Events, gestaltet von unseren APAL-Künstler:innen sowie weiteren Künstler:innen mit asiatischem Hintergrund.

Verankert in einer asiatisch-kritischen Perspektive und geprägt von queeren, feministischen und diasporischen Ansätzen, bringt dieses viertägige Programm unsere künstlerische APAL-Community, Künstler:innen asiatischer Hintergründe, Verbündete und alle Neugierigen zusammen. So entsteht ein Raum zum Bewegen, Machen, Fühlen und Denken und für einen Austausch von Wissen und Begegnung.

Den Auftakt von APAL@WERKSTATT machen zwei Musikacts in einem Abend voller klanglicher Erlebnisse, alles von zart bis hart. Danach laden die Workshops unserer Künstler:innen dazu ein, in ganz unterschiedliche Praktiken einzutauchen: Schreien, Meditation und körperbasiertes Arbeiten, kollektive Trauerarbeit mit Stimme und Text, die sinnliche Lust queerer Erotik oder das Erschaffen von Klanglandschaften. Jeder Workshop hält etwas für Neugierige bereit. Zum Abschluss kommen wir noch einmal zusammen, um zu feiern und uns bei einem Karaoke-Abend die alles aus dem Leib zu singen.
