Green Hydrogen as a Gamechanger: Opportunities, Challenges, and Public Acceptance

Das sagt der/die Veranstalter:in:

Green hydrogen could play a key role in the energy supply system of the future. It will especially be used to store energy – so that we have enough electricity even when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing. But numerous technical, economic and social challenges stand in the way of widespread adoption of hydrogen. Germany will probably not be able to produce all the green hydrogen it needs, and will have to rely on imports from abroad. The production of hydrogen is also still comparatively expensive to other energy sources. And public awareness and acceptance of hydrogen as a technology in the energy transition remains limited.

What role could green hydrogen play in our future energy system if we deal with the aforementioned challenges? Is Germany too dependent on other states for its energy needs? And how do we address people’s potential fears and prejudices around hydrogen?

We will discuss all of these questions with you, together with our experts.

Featured speakers:

  • Dr Michelle Brown, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin
  • Pantea Sadat-Razavi, Institute for Future Energy & Material Flow Systems, Saarbrücken
  • Prof Dr Chris Jones, University of Portsmouth (UK)

Moderation: Grace Dobush, freelance journalist
