After her uncle’s mysterious death, Lilia returns from Paris to her native Tunisia to attend his funeral ceremony, her secret french girlfriend in tow. As the strange circumstances of his passing are slowly uncovered, Lilia must try to bridge the gap between her own sexual identity and the family's more traditional values.
Bouzid’s tender family portrait explores the burdens and silences of being queer across genders and generations in Tunisia. The film features a stellar cast including newcomer Eya Bouteraa, the legendary Hiam Abbass and a special appearance by Tunisian director Salma Baccar.
In A Whisper celebrated its World Premiere in competition at this year’s Berlinale. ALFILM is thrilled to present it as the closing film of its 17th edition. (MB)
