Khartoum Offside follows a determined group of young women training and organizing for their recognition as Sudan's national women's football team, all under a system designed to keep them out of public sporting life. Over several years, the film documents small negotiations and large confrontations dealing with everything from family expectations and bureaucratic obstruction, to financial scarcity, and the daily discipline of staying together. Zein's camera is attentive to both exhilaration and fatigue, capturing the social choreography of collective resistance as it takes shape on and off the field. The pitch becomes more than a site for sport: it is a political space where citizenship, visibility, and bodily autonomy are rehearsed in real time. The result is an energizing chronicle of feminist persistence in the face of structural exclusion.
