There are investigators who chase criminals. And there are investigators who follow their money. Criminologist Dr. Uwe Dolata belonged to the second type. He was considered by many to be the expert on white-collar crime - on financial concealment, money laundering and corruption. His principle was as simple as it was merciless: Follow the money trail - and you'll find the spider in the web. Another sentence of his became legendary among investigators:
"Don't ask the frogs if you want to drain the swamp."

While his hometown at times gained the dubious reputation of being the "capital of investment fraudsters", Dolata worked to uncover the networks behind the facades. Accounts, straw men, offshore companies - for him they were not columns of figures, but traces. His skills did not go unnoticed. Eventually, he was appointed by the Federal Criminal Police Office as a financial investigator in the Nine/Eleven special commission. But anyone who follows the money flows enters dark territory.
