On Whit Saturday, 23 May 2026, Berlin-Kreuzberg will be transformed into a colorful axolotl spectacle! The 30th Berlin Children's Carnival of Cultures is a special anniversary. For three decades, it has stood for diversity, self-determination and the power of childhood. This year's theme animal, the axolotl, is a strong symbol of this: it remains young throughout its life and stands for renewal, resilience and the preservation of childhood. This is exactly what the Children's Carnival of Cultures embodies - a place where childhood remains visible, audible and alive. The motto "VIVA EL AXOLOTL - FOREVER YOUNG" combines this symbolism with a clear, positive and internationally understandable message. We are not just celebrating 30 years of children's carnival - we are celebrating 30 years of living childhood. And the message remains: Childhood is alive. Childhood remains. Forever.
As one of the largest non-commercial children's and family festivals in Berlin, the Berlin Children's Carnival of Cultures stands for diversity, community and cultural exchange. Organized by Kreuzberger Musikalische Aktion e.V., it offers a platform for children's and youth institutions to present their activities to a wide audience.
COSTUME PARADE / DEMONSTRATION / JURY
This year's costume parade is a demonstration and starts at 12:30 pm on Mariannenplatz and leads via Oranienstraße to Görlitzer Park. The jury will sit at Rio Reiser Platz and choose the most beautiful costumes, the best performances and the most unusual themed floats.
Together with the children, we want to use the parade to draw attention to the situation of the Axolotl, but also to the underfunding and cuts in open child and youth work, youth culture, political education, school social work and the lack of spaces for children and young people in the growing city. The colorful demonstration is primarily intended to give children and young people the opportunity to step up to the microphone and express their wishes and demands. This should give children and young people the chance to be heard!
CHILDREN'S & FAMILY FESTIVAL IN GÖRLI
The children's festival in Görlitzer Park starts at 14:00 and runs until 19:30! A wide range of free games and hands-on activities await all visitors. The festival offers families the opportunity to spend an enjoyable afternoon together - an important aspect, especially in view of rising prices and growing poverty. Numerous clubs, including Alba Berlin, the GSJ and Spielwagen Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, organize the festival with free activities. On two stages (dance and music stage) there will be a great program by children for children. Many different clubs from Berlin and Brandenburg present their activities.
