Steve Reich at 90! and Saturday Night Fever

Steve Reich will be 90 years old in 2026 and this is an occasion to bring his music into line with the anniversary of the Holst Sinfonietta, as the ensemble has been one of the most active in Germany for 20 years, regularly dedicating its own projects to his music. After the great success of the previous concerts in 2019 with Steve Reich's legendary Music for 18 Musicians (an "all-round admirable production" according to the Badische Zeitung) and 2021 Tehillim/City Life/Sextet and 2023 The Desert Music, the Holst Sinfonietta is following up. With a very recent work by Steve Reich, the ensemble dedicates the concert to one of his greatest works: Reich/Richter. This piece pays homage to the great painter Gerhard Richter and a true Reich classic of the 1980s - his legendary string quartet work Different Trains.

Reich's Clapping Music will open the concert, followed by the percussion duo Nagayo Marimbas, which is very reminiscent of his early works.
