a s s o m b r a ç ã o – Freude als verkörperte Praxis

In the organizer's words:

About the workshop:

The Brazilian choreographer and dancer Ametonyo Silva is spending a week in residence at the Schwankhalle as part of the OUTNOW! Festival, the Brazilian choreographer and dancer Ametonyo Silva is spending a one-week residency at the Schwankhalle. In this workshop, he will share choreographic practices from his ongoing dance project "a s s o m b r a ç ã o". In Brazilian Portuguese, assombração refers to a ghost or haunting, an invisible, physically tangible presence. For Ametonyo, it is precisely these apparitions that touch us - sometimes without us being able to see them - and reverberate in our feet, stomachs, mouths, ears and eyes. This workshop is about making your own body vibrate in order to rekindle memories and to evoke and spread warmth and joy ("alegria"). The body becomes the medium for movements, gestures, images, sensations and words that constantly connect and transform.

Even after the workshop, Ametonyo invites you to visit him during his residency week and accompany him in his choreographic practice ¬- indoors and outdoors, in public space and in the theater, dancing, walking, mapping, writing, cooking and storytelling.

About the artist:

Ametonyo Silva is a choreographer and dancer, born in Paraíba in northeastern Brazil. In São Paulo, where he studied Mise en Scène at the University of São Paulo, he moved in collective practices at the intersection of dance, theater and artistic mediation. He has lived in France since 2022 and completed the choreography master exerce at the CCN Occitanie in Montpellier (2022-2024). His work deals with experiences of displacement and migration and develops a choreographic research - a s s o m b r a m e n t o s - that explores spaces of shared abundance. In interdisciplinary practices, he works with the body, memory and imagination to open up an everyday re-enchantment of life.
