A sensory experiment with time, space and perception between presence and absence.
In a city characterized by the constant flow of moving bodies - restless, tense, controlled - A Space InBetween by Leila Patzies invites a shift in the perception of time and space. Inspired by Fred Sandback's minimalist installations, Patzies works with a layering principle in which sound, light and movement are added and removed to explore the interplay of absence and presence. In collaboration with three dancers and a saxophonist, the piece explores inner layers of the body-skin, fascia, bone-and uses the voice as a dancing organ through the six healing sounds of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Through live improvisation, silence, raw sound and site-specific materials form new spatial boundaries and invite the audience into shifting states of presence, absence and transformation.

This is the first collaboration in this constellation, in which freelance dancers and musicians from Berlin come together under the artistic direction of Leila Marie Patzies (born 1994). Patzies is a choreographer, dancer and teacher and trained at Iwanson International (Munich), Varium (Barcelona) and CobosMika Seeds (Girona), specializing in improvisation, acting and partnering.
She has worked with internationally renowned choreographers and created the piece Why Death Was Just Death, which was performed in Berlin and Italy. She received two grants from Dachverband Tanz (2021, 2023) to support her artistic development and to rehabilitate dancers, as well as a grant from ChanceTanz to work with young audiences in 2025. In 2023 she founded the Berlin dance collective Pieles Permeables.
Currently, the group is expanding its collaborative practice through "A Space InBetween", an interdisciplinary improvisation-based project that combines somatic research, live music and spatial experimentation and will serve as the basis for future collaborative creations.
