Children's opera freely adapted from Gaetano Donizetti
Adina and Nemorino. They seem destined for each other, and yet: Adina is clever, proud - and a little bit conceited. Nemorino is friendly, dreamy - and rather shy. Both have a heart that actually cries out "Love!", but unfortunately their heads get in the way. Nemorino doesn't think he's good enough for Adina. And Adina thinks that such a simple boy from the country could never be her boyfriend. What to do? Luckily there is Dulcamara. He sells this and that and much more. Dulcamara is also said to have all kinds of miracle cures and magic potions. Or perhaps he simply has a sympathetic ear, a wealth of wisdom and a keen sense for matters of the heart?
Grand opera in a small format. Donizetti's Love Potion - first performed in Milan on May 12, 1832 - is one of the most popular operas in the bel canto repertoire. In this version specially adapted for children, there is talking and singing, crying and smiling: emotions run wild when the first great love awakens in us. And, of course, the immortal melodies of this important Italian composer are not to be missed! We experience how courage grows, prejudices shrink and how a little push at the right time can make a big difference. Because sometimes the true love potion is simply good advice and belief in oneself.
