Angelika Kohlmeier – Photonenspur und Paragraphen

The Friends of the DTdF are showing the exhibition "PhotonenSpur und Paragraphen - Was bleibt vom politischen Geschehen in der Langzeitbelichtung" by Berlin photographer and photojournalist Angelika Kohlmeier from 24.04. to 30.05.2026 in the Stadtkirche Darmstadt. As part of the "World Design Capital", which takes place in 2026, the exhibition makes a contribution to the design discourse in the Rhine-Main region.

The show features large-format images of political processes of the 20th German Bundestag, which were captured by Angelika Kohlmeier over a period of more than four years using a tin can. Unique black and white photographs were created on photographic paper.

The works were first shown at the Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin in 2025.

The exhibition is complemented by time-lapse recordings, which can be played on your own smartphone as you approach the photographs. In this way, the artist made the detailed course of plenary debates, parliamentary group meetings and committee meetings visible.

The exhibition deals with the transformation of political images and debates in the face of digitalization and time pressure; it aims to make democratic processes transparent, thereby becoming part of them and raising the question: What is parliamentary reporting allowed to do and what does it do to us?
