Between music, live performance and trip: melting, muddy ice worlds become a transient monument against control and conquest.

In her works, the Austrian-Estonian performance artist Netti Nüganen tells of dark ecologies and questions what they have to do with our identity: How can we belong anywhere at all, in fragile environments like ours? In response to a world in which land, language and folklore have long since become commodities, the performers surround themselves with ice. Against the backdrop of melting scenery, the expectation of permanence is abandoned. After the ice comes water, and melting becomes resistance: against control and the desire for conquest.
