Bahnwärter Thiel Live mit Kidsø

In the organizer's words:

A beat like a pulse. A glockenspiel. Synthesizer sounds that begin harmoniously, almost tentatively, slowly becoming darker, droning softly, gently driving up the pulse, while beautiful voices waft through the track again and again. "Fir", the title track of KIDSØ's debut album, draws you almost magically into a sound that you want to hear and feel at the same time. It is what could perhaps best be described as danceable melancholy. Or, as Moritz Graßinger (analog synths, piano, percussions) and Martin Schneider (drums, e-percussions, video installation) sometimes say with a smile: "electronic music for people who don't usually listen to electronic music that often".

Both are somehow true. And somehow not, or only insufficiently. Because what the two of them produce as KIDSØ can hardly be squeezed into stylistic pigeonholes or be summed up by euphonious adjectives. It is electronic music at its core, yes. But not the finger-in-the-air-let's-rub-it-together-in-the-mountain-grove electronic music, but rather what a Jon Hopkins produces when he's eaten the right mushrooms. With the difference that KIDSØ record this sound predominantly analog and organic.

KIDSØ songs also have that special, otherworldly, melancholic vibe that many mixes from the magnificent "Late Night Tales" series, for example, or the electronically embellished pieces by Ólafur Arnalds carry within them. And yet Moritz and Martin can turn their yearning compositions live into thoroughly danceable and euphoric tunes, as if they had been written for the blue hour of a club night.
