BEFREIUNG – eine Klanginstallation von Marc Sinan

In the organizer's words:

The "Liberation" installation combines sound, architecture and history to create an intense listening experience. It makes personal experiences and testimonies of the Second World War audible. A multi-layered fabric of pain and grief, liberation and hope has been created from various voices - a sound space that anchors memory in the heart of the city.

Specially developed loudspeaker sculptures, created in collaboration with Miriam Baute, make personal testimonies audible - from survivors such as Batsheva Dagan, Clara Malraux and Genowefa Nożkowska.

The sound installation can be experienced from September 13 to 25, 2025 at the Documentation Center for Nazi Forced Labor. At this historical location, the work unfolds its effect with a new sharpness: as an urgent warning - and as an invitation to question history again and again.

The installation was created on the occasion of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war and could be experienced in May on Pariser Platz in front of the Brandenburg Gate - as part of the European Peace Oratory to commemorate the liberation from Nazi terror.
