Bicycle Days

In the organizer's words:

Altona Bicycle Days - 16.05. and 17.05.2026

For the 9th time, the Altona Bicycle Club of 1868/80 is organizing the Altona Bicycle Days at HausDrei; this time the theme is "Road Bikes".

An exhibition in the large hall deals with the "History of the racing bike from 1892 to the present day". The main focus will be on bicycles from different eras with their technical features, as well as photos of races, components and accompanying material that bring the respective era to life. Dirk Breiholz will be offering several guided tours of the exhibition on both days, in which technology will be illustrated and contexts explained.

A book table with publications from the association and its members invites visitors to browse and browse. If required, there will also be short lectures by Lars Amenda on the subject of "The history and stories of cycling in Hamburg". Of course, all books are also available for purchase.

On Saturday, there will also be the public exhibition "My racing bike" in the courtyard of HausDrei, where everyone can present their racing bike to the public.

The popular bicycle flea market will also take place again on Sunday.

About the Altona Bicycle Club of 1868/80

For a long time, this club with the founding name "Eimsbüttler Velocipeden-Reit-Club" was considered the oldest bicycle club in the world; today we know that there is another one in France that is a few days older.

Revived in Altona in 1880, the club's main focus was on cycling and later on cycling.

In the early 2000s, the club was on the verge of being dissolved before being revived in 2013 on the initiative of a group of Hamburg cycling enthusiasts.

Since then, the ABC has been involved in reappraising Hamburg's cycling history, organizing rides and wrenching afternoons, and the members meet for a monthly regulars' table.

The annual highlight of the activities is the Altona Bicycle Days.
