At the center of this new play by the currently most frequently performed Dutch author Lot Vekemans is the retired hydraulic engineer Richard. He has asked his daughter Helen to come to him to clarify a few basic things with her. His doctor has told him that he is slowly going blind, which is why he has lost his driver's license. And he wants his daughter, with whom he has had little contact, not only because of her marriage to a black poet, to move back in with him and care for him.

This is the starting point for a similarly exciting discourse with crystal-clear, brilliant dialog as in Vekemans' last play "Gift", which was shown here at the 2014 Hamburg Theatre Festival. Vekemans once again succeeds in creating a grandiose family drama, an exciting confrontation between two generations, between father and daughter about what was and what is and the ever-relevant question of how one wants to live. And how important family ties can be or whether they can really be overcome.

It is exciting to witness the question of whether Helen can really put aside her rejection of her authoritarian, libertarian father. And whether Richard can come out of his shell at this existential point in his life and take a step towards his daughter.

Gustav Peter Wöhler returns to the St. Pauli stage in the role of "Richard" after his furious "Jonathan Peachum" in the acclaimed "Threepenny Opera" by Leonhard Koppelmann and Peter Jordan. His partner will be Nadja Petri, in the "Dreigroschenoper" the diner Jenny and most recently seen as the shipowner's wife in "Carmen von St. Pauli" and as the charming suicide "Claire" in "1h22″.
