Shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Maik becomes deputy manager of the LPG cowshed. 700 cows are the pride of the whole village. But then the events of 1989 and the years that followed rolled over the cowshed. Maik tries to take over the cows, but fails because of the banks' loan conditions. For his daughter Marina, who has a heart condition, the fall of communism means salvation. The crucial operation can only be performed in the West. As a teenager, Marina dreams of a free and wild life. To escape the confines of the village, she moves to Munich. The cowshed becomes deserted, Maik loses his purpose in life and his hope for a better future. Marina becomes a successful performer, but she can never forget one of the cows she grew up with. Cow no. 32, whom she affectionately calls Karla, becomes an inner guide for her in a crisis situation, enabling her to make a momentous and courageous decision after years of wandering around.

The play Brachland tells a turning point story about loss and new beginnings. It sheds light on how father and daughter react to the collapse of the GDR and shows their lives up to the present day. It questions the defining values of identity, freedom, community and respect. Brachland is based on biographical stories and was staged for the premiere in August 2024 at the historical location of the former LPG cowshed in Dahnsdorf (Brandenburg).
