In the organizer's words:

First of all, it vibrates: with Whereas the Reality Trembles by Johannes Maria Staud. In this piece, which was also commissioned by the BRSO, among others, the percussion - which also plays on hanging flower pots and tiles - is not just a rhythmic motor, but a seismographic narrator. Percussionist Christoph Sietzen illuminates Staud's multi-layered "Melodies" with electrifying precision. Carl Nielsen's overture to Maskarade then sparkles with Nordic esprit - a musical wink full of energy. Until we finally arrive at Jean Sibelius' Third Symphony: of supple clarity and far removed from any romantic exaggeration. Santtu-Matias Rouvali will conduct this evening, which will certainly not smooth out the exciting contrasts, but rather bring them out with verve.
