Berlin 1929: The metropolis boils like a witch's cauldron in which the most diverse lifestyles, ideologies, parties and splinter groups combine to form a toxic mixture. Especially at night. The atmosphere of the city and its unheard-of permissiveness also cast a spell over the young writer Cliff Bradshaw. In search of inspiration, he plunges into proletarian Berlin, discovers its rougher side and spends New Year's Eve in the wicked "Kit Kat Klub". Here he meets the singer Sally Bowles, who heats up the pleasure-seeking crowd. The two artistic souls crash into each other like two shooting stars - and for a moment it seems as if the big party will never end. Driven on by the ice-cold smiling emcee of the "Klub", Cliff and Sally discover Berlin as a playground for their sexual adventures and also as a stage on which they can both be someone completely different. But when the stones start flying at the engagement party of the resolute landlady Fräulein Schneider and the shy Jewish fruit merchant Schultz, the big awakening comes. The dawning National Socialism shows its ugly face. Friends become political fighters, solidarity is put to the test and love has to cower in the face of fear and opportunism.
With its rousing revue numbers, jazz rhythms and ragtime-inspired music, the world-famous 1966 musical "Cabaret" recreates the grandiose soundscapes of the declining Weimar Republic. The production by director and actor André Kaczmarczyk traces the glamor of the past and the attitude to life of today.
