Cinematic Bass Music - Jaspar Libuda + Florian Segelke

The music of Berlin composer, double bassist and multi-instrumentalist Jaspar Libuda is located at the interface of neo-classical music, film music and soundscapes with influences from Gregorian chant, early polyphony, minimal music, improvisation and electronic music. His compositions are classical soundscapes, musical stories without words, a declaration of love to melody and the deep feelings it can evoke.

His latest live ensemble is the duo with his guitarist Florian Segelke, with whom he has been playing together in the Jaspar Libuda Trio for over 15 years. Using a five-string double bass with a high C-string built especially for him, Jaspar Libuda creates timbres reminiscent of cello, percussion, guitar and oud. Guitarist Florian Segelke uses his eight-string classical guitar, electronic effects and various strumming techniques to create a sound spectrum that oscillates between rich bass, powerful distorted and delicate guitar tones.

The Berlin duo creates spaces in which time seems to expand from a fraction of a moment into a universe of sonic possibilities.
