Compagnia Zappalà Danza: romeo and juliet 1.1

As part of "utopia - european ensemble network for dance", the Italian Compagnia Zappalà Danza is making its fourth guest appearance at the HALLE Tanzbühne Berlin. There, Italian choreographer Roberto Zappalà will present the German premiere of "romeo and juliet 1.1 - the blur of the bodies".

Why do we sometimes lose focus? Technically, blurring is caused by the wrong distance to the focal point - an image becomes blurred if we are too close or too far away. Choreographer Roberto Zappalà uses this principle in "romeo and juliet 1.1. - the blur of the bodies" as the starting point for his approach to the lovers of Verona. He emphasizes the individual, socially shaped experience of closeness and strangeness. In reference to Shakespeare, where love gains its highest intensity through death, Zappalà shows a world in which the death instinct only sublimates itself - and responds with passion and reverence for life. His choreographic reinterpretation does not want to talk about love, but to be an act of love itself.
