Crecemos porque nos juntamos. Buchpräsentation und Gespräch

In the organizer's words:

A collective book born from encounters between women weavers, artists and activists in the north of Argentina.

Crecemos porque nos juntamos (We grow because we come together) is the result of several years of collective process between weavers, artists and activists from the north of Argentina. The book brings together texts, memories and voices that emerged during joint meetings of the Unión Textiles Semillas - a network of almost 300 women that interweaves art, social practice and collective knowledge.

The conversation between Andrei Fernández and Michael Dieminger, moderated by Gaby Cisterna, is about collective writing as a care practice, weaving as a space of knowledge and the question of how collective action - crecer juntas - becomes a form of aesthetic-political self-empowerment. Using excerpts and reflections from the book, the three will provide insights into the creation of the project: into moments of listening, negotiating and translating and into the experience of creating a joint work with many hands.

The evening will be accompanied musically by FALSO CONEJO - the Argentinian duo Carla Abilés and Gustavo Obligado. Their performance combines popular music archives from Latin America with experimental sound practices and creates a collective listening experience between memory, rhythm and resonance.

The book was published in 2024 by Metaninfas (Argentina) and emerged from the project Textiles Semillas within the program 99 Questions at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin.

About the Unión Textiles Semillas

Unión Textiles Semillas (UTS) brings together almost 300 weavers, artists and activists from twelve groups of indigenous and rural communities in northern Argentina, as well as a group of sembradoras - an intercultural collective for organization and research. Founded in 2023, UTS combines textile practice with economic empowerment, knowledge sharing and the collective building of relationships based on care and collaboration.

The Textiles Semillas project was initiated as part of the artistic-research program 99 Questions at the Humboldt Forum, curated by Michael Dieminger. In close collaboration with the Argentinian curator Andrei Fernández, this developed into a long-term exchange that led to the founding of the Unión Textiles Semillas in 2023.
