Daniel Knorr. Sculpted Platforms

In the organizer's words:

Galerie Rüdiger Schöttle is pleased to announce the solo exhibition "Sculpted Platforms" by the artist Daniel Knorr and to present two new groups of works: In his group of works "Sculpted Platforms", created in 2026, we encounter poetically fragile towers of sediment with the shape of a leaf or a stone inscribed at the top. The permanent bronze and ephemeral wax objects in this new series are based on a natural phenomenon discovered by chance: erosive processes have eroded the surrounding mud, while the leaves or stones above have acted like a protective canopy, inscribing their silhouettes three-dimensionally into the earth material. Appearing natural, the objects seem to be removed from physical laws and illustrate how even the smallest elements can have a substantial effect. In their entirety, these essential works appear like silent monuments - as manifestations of the interconnectedness of natural processes as well as symbols of their inherent fragility and ephemerality.this idea of the interconnectedness and interlinking of organic processes is continued in his second sculptural work group "Synapses", which was created in 2025. Here, the artist draws on the resin material already used in the "Depression Elevations" and transforms it into a new formal and conceptual configuration. The material, which varies in its opacity, wraps itself around branches and twigs like an outer membrane, following their organic morphology and synthesizing individual elements into a superordinate structure. Existing connections are exposed, artificial ones generated. The series title refers to the biological concept of the synapse - the neuronal contact point at which stimuli are transmitted between nerve cells and sensory, muscle, glandular or other nerve cells. Synapses not only act as transmitters, but are also able to modulate the information of signal transmission. They are the places in the brain that form the basis of our consciousness, thinking, feeling and memory, creating portraits of seemingly natural networks in intricate, liana-like wall formations that inevitably bring to mind the fine ramifications of organic root structures and fungal networks. This structural analogy between neuronal and plant networks - and the idea of a universal interconnectedness of all organic matter contained therein - is brought to our attention by the artist.

Daniel Knorr's works can be found in renowned collections worldwide, including: Belvedere, Vienna; Museum Folkwang, Essen; Kunsthalle Bremen; Kunstmuseum Bonn (KiCo Collection); Lenbachhaus, Munich; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich; Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw; M HKA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp; Mezzanin Stiftung für Kunst, Schaan; Vehbi Koç Foundation, Istanbul; Jorge M.
