'...the violinist, whose mellow tone has a built-in floating quality, plays at breakneck speed or leaves notes hanging in the air with such urgency that time itself seems to stand still.' - John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

The Daniel Weltlinger Quartet is led by internationally renowned Berlin-based Australian violinist, composer and producer Daniel Weltlinger (Lulo Reinhardt Latin Swing Project / Karsten Troyke / Moka Efti Orchestra). The conceptual idea behind this ensemble focuses mainly on original compositions and improvisations based on real-life situations and stories, using elements of klezmer, Eastern European folk music, jazz and free improvisation to vividly describe these stories.

The debut album of this project - 'Szolnok' - released on May 3, 2019 on DMG Germany and Rectify Records - tells the story of Weltlinger's violin from Szolnok, which he inherited from his Hungarian-born grandfather, who had this instrument with him when he walked from Hungary to France between 1920 and 1922. The violin survived transportation to the rest of the world and was brought back to Europe at the end of 2017 after around 75 years away from the continent. The Szolnok album follows the historical lineage of this instrument and its whereabouts to this day, and it represents a story about time, continuity and, above all, a positive understanding of moving forward.
